2006 Principal of the Year

The 2006 Principal of the Year Award was presented to Verna Beamon Ransom of Moorhead Middle School, Sunflower County.

Mrs. Ransom has directed several programs that facilitate student growth including activities associated with Project Ascend and Project Crossroads, not to leave out the fact that she has open the school library to the public and extended library hours. She is a highly effective leader indicated by her staff retention rate and continued gains in student achievement levels. Under the strict guidelines of "No Child Left Behind" and rapidly dwindling budgets, she levies funds to support staff professional development and acquire instructional aides to enhance the learning experience for a! ll. Her school's motto: "It takes a whole village to raise a child." This motto is apparent by the revolving doors at Moorhead Middle where parents and community leaders are welcomed and often solicited to provide encouraging messages.
